Kissyfur is a 1980s animated children's television series which aired on NBC. It was produced by Jean Chalopin & Andy Heyward and created by Phil Mendez for DIC. The series was based on a half-hour NBC prime-time special called Kissyfur: Bear Roots and was followed by three more specials until its Saturday morning debut. The show ran for two seasons. The show follows the adventures of Gus and Kissyfur, a father and son bear duo who had joined the circus. One day on a circus trip, the train they are riding in derails and the bears escape to a new life in the swamps of Paddlecab County. There, they protect the local swamp's inhabitants from the local bumbling alligators Floyd and Jolene. Kissyfur and his father use the skills they have acquired from the human world to create a boat tour business transporting other animals and their products down the river.

Seasons & Episodes

This episode started with Kissyfur and his dad, Gus, working for the circus. This particular night Kissyfur had just lost his mother and his circus act suffered. The circus loads up on the train to go to the next town. As the train was crossing a bridge, the bridge went out and Kissyfur and Gus escaped the people trying to keep the animals together. Kissyfur and Gus end up at a swamp right in the middle of a food shortage.

To Tell the Tooth

A toothache causes Gus to neglect Kissyfur at a father-son picnic. Thinking he's unwanted, Kissyfur decides to run away, but Toot and Stuckey tag along. Learning there kids are missing, the parents search and rescue the three from a storm.Back home, Gus' tooth is pulled and everything is fine again.

Kissyfur and Howie are enjoying pulling practical jokes on everyone, until a joke about Toot being stuck under a dam causes the dam to break and flood everything. To make it up to everyone, Kissyfur & Howie plan a party for everyone under a slide to get them to trust them again. However, Lennie overhears this and moves the slide to a pit of quicksand which the three of them end up getting stuck in. After a close call in the quicksand with the gators, Gus comes out and saves the day once again. In the 2nd half, Kissyfur and Toot find a mysterious egg while on a scavenger hunt. Kissyfur decides to care for the egg, and that night a doofus bird hatches. Everyone thinks the bird is cute at first, but it's too much of a cluts, and eventually ends up destroying the annual berry festival. After a serious talk, Kissyfur realizes he has to release doofus into the wild, but Doofus refuses to go. Hearing doofus' cries, the gators find and go after him. After an even louder cry, a herd of

Kissyfur believes a giant tree is the legendary Swamp Swami after Howie pretends to be the tree's voice. He makes Kissyfur do odd jobs, but the joke gets out of hand when the gators disguise themselves as the Swami and trick Charles into bringing them all the cubs. In the end, the real Swamp Swami (which turns out to be Gus) scares the ators away.
