Waiter Ng Yiu-chung and his wife Sze Man-nga separate. The couple have a son called Ng Koon-yat. To raise money for Koon-yat to sign up for Junior Space Camp, Yiu-chung arbitrarily uses his mentally retarded younger brother Ng Yiu-chong’s salary to gamble. But he has no luck. He then thinks of taking advantage of his younger sister Ng Shun-may. Interior designer Meng Yat-yin is a perfectionist. He and his partner So Tak-ching always have different opinions. Yat-yin’s wife Yau Fei-yi argues with her father-in-law Meng Kwan-shui. Yat-yin uses some excuse for avoiding them as he gets caught in the middle. Yat-yin starts an argument with Fei-yi as he wants to sell their village house and buy Tak-ching’s shares. Yiu-ching receives HK$20,000 as his friend makes an incorrect funds transfer. He embezzles the money and places bets. But he loses everything. Yiu-chung miraculously hits the jackpot. But Yiu-chong has given the lottery ticket to Yat-yin.

Yat-yin insists on returning the lottery ticket to Yiu-chong. Yiu-chung wants to snatch back the lottery ticket. While Yiu-chung carries out his scheme, he accidentally burns the lottery ticket. Yiu-chung asks his friend Yim Sing for help. Yim Sing offers some suggestion that he has some way to enable Yiu-chung to take revenge on Yat-yin. Fei-yi’s sister-in-law Meng Siu-dou and Kwan-shui scold Fei-yi for discovering Siu-dou’s secret. Late in the evening, Fei-yi is annoyed as Yat-yin has not returned home. The couple start another argument over selling their village house. Fei-yi angrily leaves home. Yim Sing and his chums kidnap Yat-yin. Yiuchung also pretends to be taken hostage as he is afraid of getting into trouble. The kidnappers demand a ransom of HK$5 million from Kwanshui. Yiuchung tells Yim Sing he wants a piece of the pie. Feiyi goes to deliver the ransom. On the way, she comes up with some other idea. Feiyi saves Yatyin. Yatyin brings up the topic of going to save Yiuchung.

While Yim Sing hands over the ransom to his boss Kei Sai, he notices the amount of ransom is incorrect. Yiu-chung catches sight of Fei-yi meeting up with some guy, who turns out to be Yiu-chung’s former brother-in-law Yee Wan-sze. Yat-yin has no recollection of being kidnapped. Kwan-shui even points out Fei-yi has left home. Yat-yin then realizes their joint account is almost emptied. Yat-yin is diagnosed with transient global amnesia. He looks for Yiu-chung as he wants to find out what is actually happening. Both Yiu-chung and Kwan-shui advise him not to call the police. Yat-yin hires Yiu-chung to collaborate with him in reconstructing the sequence of events in the case. But their efforts are wasted. Yiu-chung wants to give Man-nga the money he has picked up. But his creditor snatches it away. Man-nga scolds Yiu-chung as she finds out Yiu-chung has embezzled his friend’s money.

Yat-yin realizes Fei-yi’s wedding ring is in his trouser pocket. But he cannot think of any reason. Yiu-chung is fired. Yat-yin keeps asking him about the kidnapping. Yiu-chung goes to the village house to look for Fei-yi. But he runs into Yat-yin. He then finds out Fei-yi had let her friend stay at the village house temporarily. Yiu-chung bumps into Kei Sai, who threateningly reminds Yiu-chung not to offend his boss. Yiu-chung runs into Wan-sze. He clarifies that he and Fei-yi were just schoolmates. Yiu-chung brings Yiu-chong along to tail Wan-sze. But they find nothing. Shun-may asks the duo about Wan-sze’s whereabouts. Siu-dou meets up with clinical psychotherapist Lam Hoi-ching, who used to be Siu-dou’s schoolmate. Siu-dou tells Hoi-ching about her worries. Siu-dou points out to Kwan-shui that Fei-yi was scheduled to see someone when she ran away from home that evening.

Yat-yin agonizes over money problems. Siu-dou suggests Yat-yin undergo Hoi-ching’s hypnotherapy. While Yat-yin is hypnotized, he recalls some strange smell when he was kidnapped. Koon-yat’s schoolmate Tseung Tsun bullies Koon-yat. Yiu-chung reprimands Tseung Tsun. In return, Tseung Tsun’s parents complain about Yiu-chung. After being scolded by Man-nga, Koon-yat tells Yiu-chung why he started a fight. Yiu-chung seeks compensation from Tseung Tsun’s father Tseung Lung, whose minions beat Yiu-chung up. Yat-yin goes to see Hoi-ching after having a nightmare. While he is hypnotized, he recalls some bald kidnapper. Yat-yin thinks he has probably offended Tseung Lung as his office is vandalized. Yat-yin suspects the kidnapping case has something to do with Tseung Lung. He asks Yiu-chung to act as a witness. Yiu-chung is afraid of being implicated and wants to inform Kei Sai. But he runs into Yat-yin on the way. Yat-yin insists on finding Tseung Lung and asking him to clarify the matter.
