Pennies From Heaven is a 1978 BBC television drama serial written by Dennis Potter. The title is taken from a song of the same name written by Johnny Burke and Arthur Johnston. It was one of several Potter serials to mix the reality of the drama with a dark fantasy content, and the earliest of his works where the characters burst into miming to popular 1930s songs.

Arthur Parker is a travelling song sheet salesman on a tight commission trying to make dreams fit the promises of the lyric sheets he carries. Although he loves his wife, he can't seem to find any pleasure with her anymore. He encounters mishaps and adventures along the way including a new love, Eileen.

As teacher Eileen tells her school children their favorite fairy tale, Arthur, who is playing Prince Charming in the tale soon comes to Eileen's real life rescue to make her his own princess.

Arthur at long last returns home to his ever patient and anxious wife, Joan. She still cares enough about him to make a bargain with him that is agreeing to finance his record shop business he has always dreamed of.

Arthur and Eileen have both ventured back to London. Arthur, is starting his own record shop and Eileen, the country girl, has come to begin an new life that begins at Oxford Circus.

Arthur and Eileen have disappeared, or so everyone thnks. Soon Joan begins receiving strange visits from a police inspector about the case a murdered blind girl.

Arthur is now wanted for murder, so he and Eileen go on the run. Although they are hungry and desperate, they are still together. They soon find a place to hide in a lonely farmhouse but Arthur makes a fatal mistake.
