Out of the Box is a Disney Channel TV series that takes place in a playhouse made entirely of cardboard boxes, where two hosts, Tony James and Vivian McLaughlin Bayubay, make crafts, sing songs, and act out plays. Two special episodes were released on VHS by Walt Disney Home Video, Out of the Box: Trick or Treat, and Out of the Box: Happy Holidays. Trick or Treat is also available on the DVD entitled Rolie Polie Olie: A Spookie Ookie Halloween. The series was created and executive produced by Douglas Love and was based on his series of books from HarperCollins. Three seasons were filmed at Kaufman Astoria Studios in New York City. The series earned three Parents' Choice Awards for excellence in television and an Emmy nomination.

The Out Of The Box gang talk about and do activities with their feet.

One of the kids brings in their pet mouse and the Out Of The Box gang plays out a story about a mouse. They also sing ""Hickory Dickory Dock.""

All of the out of the box gang except for Tony, go to the doctor for a check-up. They meet a doctor named doctor ""needle-beetle"" and the get the check-up from her. Doctor ""Needle-Beetle"" tells them they have ""stickeritus"" and that in order to get rid of the ""stickeritus"" they must dance.

The show begins when Tony and Vivian help three kids clean a very dirty rubber duck. Then, they sing a song about taking a bath. Then, Tony and Vivian help the kids make a sponge duck, a sponge airplane, and a little bath-toy boat. Then, they all sing about how fun it is getting dirty and clean. Finally, they play out a story about three kids in three tubs, before going home.

This episode, ""Mirror, Mirror"" is about being unique and different (and liking what you see in the mirror). Tony, Vivian, and the kids sing about mirrors. Then, they look at a picture, and imagine they're in it. That's when they meet Vincent Van Gogh - an artist from the 1800's. They have a short but fun and inspiring conversation before saying goodbye. Then, the kids make paintings, drawings, and other pictures of themselves. All that fun work calls for another song, this one being about what you see in mirrors and being pleased with it. Finally, they play out a story about a Queen who likes what she sees in the mirror, so she wants someone to paint what they see when they look in the mirror. But when the servants look in the mirror, they don't see the Queen - they see themselves! So, the Queen has to paint a picture of herself.

The Out of the Box cast are celebrating all the different holidays at this time of the year. The educational episode begins when Celine hands out popcorn necklaces. Then, they sing a holiday song while wrapping Tony up in streamers, and Vivian puts a big red bow on his head. After that, they all share with each other what they do with their families. Next, they all make a ""Gift Book"". A Gift Book is like a photo album that you can make out of construction paper, yarn or string, and pictures of you, your friends, and your family. Every page will have ""Gifts"" such as the Gift of Friendship, Laughter, and Love. Next, they sing another holiday song. Finally, they play out a story about two families (The Pens and the Snaps), whom want to exchange gifts but they can't afford anything, so they sell their favorite things. But that doesn't work out the way it was planned, so they have to give each other the gift of love. Then, the store manager finds the Pens and the Snaps a

Vivian starts talking about her bird feeder. When Tony and the kids come inside the clubhouse, Dane tells everyone to make bird sounds, and then they sing a song about bird sounds. Then, they make birds out of paper and feathers, and then they ""tweet, tweet, tweet"" their way to the window, and they place Vivian's bird feeder outside. Now, it's time to sing a song about flying. Then, they check the bird feeder, but there's no birds. So, they play out a story about an emperor and a royal guard who love singing. The emperor wants a bird that can sing really well, but the only bird she can find is a nightingale. When they've finished the story, they go back to check on the bird feeder, and they watch as two little birds drop by for a bite.

This episode starts when the kids help Vivian with a puzzle. It takes no time getting those last three or four pieces in. After that, it's time to sing an eye detective song. Then they imagine they are in this picture of an artist who has made an unforgettable face out of all kinds of fruits and vegetables. The cheek is made from a peach, the nose is a corn cob, there's a pear for the chin - You're most likely getting the idea. They say it's a ""treat for your eyes"". Now, they're ready to make an ""over/under around-a-scope"", which is made from a long box, mirror paper, and tape. Then, it's time to sing another song before playing out a story. This story is about a super fast hare and a very slow tortoise, who compete in a race. The hare gets lost, starts running in circles, and the tortoise wins.

Tony has a metronome in this episode. He slaps his hands on his thighs and his foot on the floor to the beat. Vivian and the kids really like the beat, so they all sing their names in time with the metronome. Dane has a little wodden box and he hits it with a stick, making a ""Dane"" sound; Tyler strikes a guiro, making a ""Tyler"" sound; Celine clashes two finger cymbals, making a ""Celine"" sound; while Vivian shakes two maracas, making a slow and fast ""Vivian"" sound. Then they sing a song about the different rhythms they can make before making some homemade musical instruments. Next, it's time to sing about the different rhythms in the air. At the end of the show, they play out a new version of the story Hansel and Gretel. This version of the Grimm's fairy tale has a very rhythmical twist to it.

This episode starts with a unicorn. It's a little toy that Vivian made for Tony's mom. When Celine and Nick accidentally break the unicorn, they tell the truth. So they sing about telling the truth. After that, they all make their own ""magic"" toy animals. Now, it's time to sing about looking on the bright side. Finally, they play out a story based on the classic story about a boy who cried wolf.

This episode begins with a discussion about farms. Then, they sing about being on the farm. Then, they meet Old McDonald. After that, they make one big scarecrow. Next, they sing about how hard farmers work. Finally, they play out a story about Old McDonald and Mr. Smile.

Everyone starts talking about monkeys, and then they sing about monkeys. Then, they ""jump into a picture"", and sing a song about doing what animals do (like how they move, what different sounds they make, and so on). After jumping out of the picture, they make animal masks. At the end, they play out a story about how the toucan got her rainbow beak.

Vivian has a tube,and she wants to get another tube, but she can't reach it, so she uses her long tube to get the other tubes down. That's when a bunch of tubes come falling down. So then, Cece makes a tube shaker, out of a paper towel roll (it's a tube), and rice. Vivian and Brandon make tube tubas. And Tony gives Dane a slide whistle. They get their tube instruments together and sing a tubey song to celebrate Tubes Day. They make tube suits and hats before playing another song; this one is about living in a tubular world. Finally, they play out a story about Tube Town.

Tony has an ocean drum, which he plays for everyone. Then, they sing about swimming, and they walk on their pretend beach. Nick and Vivian ""Jump into the picture"" and meet a crabby crab and an octopus (who says to 'go with the flow'). Nick and Vivian jump out of the picture and they all sing about going with the flow. Next, they make their own ocean drums. At the end, they play out a story about an octopus, a crab, and a fisherman.

Everybody pretends to be planets, while singing about outer space. Then, they make space mobiles. They make a pretend rocket and blast off into outer space. They sing a song about space walking. Then, they get back into their rocket and return to earth. Finally, they play out a story about the sun, the moon, and the water.

Vivian has made a paper clip bracelet. What's left is a very small box. Everyone else looks for boxes. They all find their own box and sing about boxes. They make a box crown, a box cake, and a box candy house. They sing another song about boxes. Before going home, they play out a different version of the story about Hansel and Gretel.
