Man About the House
Man about the house is a British sitcom that was broadcast for six series on ITV from 15 August 1973 to 7 April 1976. It was created and written by Brian Cooke and Johnnie Mortimer. The series was considered daring at the time due to its subject matter of a man sharing a flat with two single women. It was made by Thames Television and recorded at their Teddington studios. Two spin-off series were later made: George and Mildred and Robin's Nest. In 2004, it came 69th in a poll to find Britain's best sitcom. The series was remade in the United States as Three's company in 1977. A film version was released in 1974.
Robin and Chrissy's party is cancelled by George, which leads to a dispute. It gets so bad that Mildred finally leaves him. Can George get Mildred back?
Roper raises the rent, and the flatmates need to find a fourth roomie to help pay it off.
To please Mildred Roper, Robin goes on a dancing date with her while George decides to stay at home. However, George things something might happen between the two.
Robin has a pale complexion. Larry and Robin use sunlamps to get tans, but where exactly did Larry get those lamps?!
Robin gets a visit from his perfect brother, Norman Tripp. Robin is upset with his perfectness, and Chrissy even goes out with him to Robin's dismay.
Chrissy and Norman's relationship develops further. Robin decides to come up and tell Chrissy his true feelings about Chrissy (Poor Jo, totally neglected, similarly to Terri in Three's Company), but just then Norman announces that he and Chrissy are engaged.
It's time for Chrissy and Norman to get married, Chrissy Plummer will be Mrs. Chrissy Tripp soon. Robin bakes a monster cake as Jo, the Ropers, Larry and friends celebrate. However, this can't be all good can it? Something bad is bound to happen. Chrissy is finally married and off to be with her new groom as the series come to the end, and is survived by George and Mildred about the Ropers moving away, and Robin's Nest about Robin's new life with his girlfriend Vicky.
Larry decides to use Chrissy's cine cinema for a special type of movie, but the wrong eyes may lay upon it.
George has a hard time getting the piano he sold to Robin upstairs.
Robin gets a job as a door-to-door encyclopedia salesman, and needs some help.
Robin tries to break the ""24 hour-whole-flat-to-self"" rule when a girlfriend has rescheduled.
Robin, Chrissy, and Jo are cleaning the Ropers garden. They discover a plant and decide to keep it, that is until Larry identifies it as cannibis.
Chrissy gets some tickets to see Frank Sinatra in concert, she doesn't want them, but Jo and Robin certainly do! Also, it is George and Mildred's anniversary.
Robin, Chrissy and Jo are using Roper's car to watch a football match, but it breaks down. They call in for advice hoping that George won't find out, but there he is in the pub showing off his new wig.
Robin is about to lose his liscene, and Chrissy decides to learn to drive.
Robin has to spend the night with Roper while his friend, Jerry, fixes his flat from woodworm.
Robin is in a lot of trouble after Larry uses his name on a date. Can Robin resolve his problem with Linda?
Chrissy's mother visits the flat again. She intends to make Robin and Chrissy a couple. She goes to Chrissy's new nephews christening and hopes to bring them closer together.
George might be in trouble when the revenue service finds out he has been claiming a son for the past 19 years.
Larry drives everyone crazy while living in the flat. Robin, Chrissy and Jo try to find him a place to stay throughout the episode, but where to look?
Chrissy is upset when Robin begins a relationship with an old friend of hers.
Robin doesn't fit in at Chrissy and Jo's work party.
A mice invades Chrissy and Jo! Robin uses this to his advantage!!
Chrissy and Mildred both have secret admirers, Chrissy and George are determined to find out who!
Mildred leaves for the weekend. George takes advantage of this by trying to trick Robin, Chrissy and Jo into leaving the flat.
Chrissy replaces Robin in a poker game while he is away getting his tonsils removed. All Chrissy has to do now is learn how to play the game!
Robin, Chrissy and Jo take advantage of the Ropers being away by having a party!
Robin loses his self-esteem after being unable to defend himself to a mean Irishmen at the pub. Chrissy and Jo try to make him feel better, but he decides he will take on the guy the next time he sees him...
Chrissy goes on a date with her new boyfriend. Robin, however, learns that he is married, and tries to stop the date before it becomes a total disastor.
Mr. Roper has a prejudism against Germans since after WWII. Chrissy makes the mistake of inviting Mr. Roper over for a meal at the same time that Robin invites over an old German friend from college!
Jo goes out on the date at the same time she should be babysitting! She has talked her flatmates into babysitting for her, with natural chaotic results!
Robin has failed his cooking exams! It seems he might have to move back to Southampton to work for his father. Larry prepares to move in, as Robin prepares to move out!
Chrissy and Jo throw a farewell party for their flatmate, who's getting engaged and moving out. Next morining, they find Robin asleep in their bath. They're looking for a new flatmate and Robin is looking for somewhere to live, so the girls ask Robin to stay. All they have to do then is to talk the Ropers into agreeing to the new arrangement.
Chrissy's mother is about to pay a visit. She doesn't know Robin is living in the flat, so he's told to make himself scarce. Then Chrissy's mother decides to stay the night. Robin wonders where he's supposed to sleep.
Jo's new boyfriend is coming to the flat for a meal. Robin is persuaded to cook it. Then he and Chrissy have to spend the evening playing monopoly with the Ropers. They learn that Jo's boyfriend is Jewish - and Robin has cooked roast pork for their meal!
Chrissy is very nervous when Jo goes away for the weekend and leaves her alone in the flat with Robin. Robin brings another woman back, only for Chrissy to sabotage his plans for a night of passion.
The rent is due and the money put aside to pay it has disappeared from the flat. Robin, Chrissy and Jo have to find a way of getting some more money quickly.
Robin has been picked to play in a college football match. A few days before the game, he goes down with a bad cold. Chrissy and Jo rally round in an attempt to help him to recover in time to play.
Robin acquires a puppy. The lease on the flat says 'no pets', so Roper mustn't find out.
An unscrupulous property developer wants to flatten the street to make way for new buildings.
On 25 December 1973 a short special aired as part of All-Star Comedy Carnival.
