Dick Turpin is a British television drama series starring Richard O'Sullivan and Michael Deeks. It was created by Richard Carpenter, Paul Knight and Sydney Cole and written by Richard Carpenter, John Kane, Charles Crichton and Paul Wheeler. It was made by Gatetarn, Seacastle productions in association with London Weekend Television between 1979 and 1982. 26 half-hour episodes and one feature-length episode were filmed on location at Maidenhead in Berkshire, England. The series is loosely based on the adventures of the real 18th century highwayman Dick Turpin.

A small boy, the King's very young cousin from Germany, is the only one to escape an sttack by the cruel and spiteful highwayman, Barnaby Husk. He runs into the woods and stumbles upon Isaac Rag who leads him to 'The Fox'.

Sentence of Death (2)

Barnaby Husk seems struck by plague and is considered deadly ill but he takes Poll Maggot by surprise and escapes from 'The Fox' with the King's small cousin, Rupert, as hostage.

The Godmother

Toby Weston is about to hang as he has lost his farm to Sir John Glutton's lawyer, Simon Gooch. In short notice, Glutton expects a visit from his Godmother, the Duchess of Durham. In order to be her heir he must make her believe he is married - although he is a stubborn bachelor...

The Secret Folk

Captain Nathan Spiker hunts Turpin and Swiftnick into a forest where the secret folk, 'romani' roams and rules.

The King's Shilling

Captain Willard and his helper, Newell, recruit two young men to the King's Army by tricking them to receive a shilling each as 'assistance' in a betting game. Swiftnick liberates them, and Willard wants revenge.

The Hanging

A woman in need causes Dick Turpin to be caught by Captain Spiker. His execution is ordered, and later Swiftnick is put into the same cell.

Jane Harding wades into Turpin and Swiftnick, and she shows both urge and ability to steal a horse. Turpin and Swiftnick follow her traces to a boxing hall in Bristol.

Dick Turpin's Greatest Adventure (3)

Dick Turpin beats Noll Bridger in a duel, but is thrown into jail by Fytton, along with Swiftnick. Bridger's slave, Saul, manages to break them out, and Turpin and Swiftnick in turn rescue Kate and their horses.

Dick Turpin's Greatest Adventure (4)

Turpin, Swiftnick and Jane run afoul of the religious maniac Ignatius Slake and his followers. Slake promptly puts Turpin on trial and sentences him to a 'running'. This means he is to be tied to a burning cartwheel.

Dick Turpin's Greatest Adventure (5)

Swiftnick helps Turpin and Jane Harding escape Noll Bridger, and shortly after he assists them sneak into a costume ball at Lord Melford's Estate, where a special guest from America has arrived.

The Fox (1)

Having witnessed the death of Joe Cutler who was chased by Lord Manderfell's armed men lead by Warren Dick Turpin and his travelling mate Swiftnick are taken prisoners. Allthough his wife Lady Julia is disgusted, Lord Manderfell forces Turpin to be the game of a 'fox hunt'.

The Fox (2)

Swiftnick breaks out of Lord Manderfell's custody and escapes on horseback. He finds the exhausted Dick Turpin and hides him. When Turpin has recovered, they see Maggot Poll, Joe Cutler's woman, but she doesn't understand, when Turpin repeats Joe's last words. Will the find the woman who understands?

Blood Money

Sir John Glutton is wanted for High Treason against King George. Nevertheless, he returns from France to his estate, Rookham, where he has letters that state the identity of many other traitors. In order to get the reward of 100 guineas, Turpin and Swiftnick operate in the area.

Deadlier Than the Male

Dick Turpin, assisted by Swiftnick, rescues Mary from a fate worse than Death at the hands of Edward Favershas and his accomplices, Crabtree and Melford. To get revenge Faversham hires Catherine Langford, known as Kate, to assist catching Turpin.

The Elixir of Life

Dick Turpin lacks money to pay for a room at The Fox but he expects Harry Sims to bring him some for stolen goods, but Sims has been caught by soldiers led by Captain Venables, who is eager to find Turpin. Meanwhile, Dr. Mandragola enters with his last bottle of 'elixir of life'...

The Thief-Taker

Dick Turpin robs fifty guineas from Lord Fordingham, who is not able to recognise him. Later, when they meet again, Turpin uses this to his advantage...

As Swiftnick is about to be tried at the local court, Dick Turpin catches Judge Lambsfoot, a special delegate from London, and takes over his identity and his role in court...

Swiftnick

When an innkeeper is evicted by greedy landowner Sir John Glutton, and her impetuous son is branded an outlaw by the authorities, they seek help from Dick Turpin, who has an old score to settle with Sir John.

The Capture

Thinking that Nick Smith is too young to live life on the road with a highwayman, Turpin tries to get him some respectable employment, but Sir John soon makes it impossible for the boy to make an honest living.

The Champion

Mudbury village is being terrorized by the fanatical Nightingale and his bully, Hogg. Turpin decides to help the villagers by enlisting a champion of his own, Tom Bracewell, a prize fighter whose alias is The Bristol Butcher.

The Imposter

Dick Turpin's adversaries, Sir Glutton and Captain Spiker, order a soldier, Miller, to harass the civil population in Turpin's name to make him hated and friendless. Even Swiftnick believes the plot.

The Upright Man

Tyson Sarney, known as The Upright Man, is the leader of The Brotherhood, a gang of 'honest' criminals. Some members have lately been taken by the law, and Turpin decides to become member to see what's wrong.

The Whipping Boy

Turpin and Swiftnick rob the Duke of Hertford. He makes Sir John let the whipping boy Colonel Moat impose a reign of terror in the county. A hidden plan occurs...

The Hero

The young 'hero' of this episode, Nigel Ffoulkes-Withers, is passionately in love with Phyllida. However, Sir John orders Captain Spiker to marry her. To prevent that Turpin tries to be both matchspoiler and matchmaker.

The Turncoat

Sir John Glutton conspires with the Stuart line of Kings, but a letter is intercepted again and again...

Jail-Birds

Swiftnick tries to commit highway robbery on his own but is intercepted by some soldiers. Turpin tries to rescue him but they are both caught prisoner, and to their surprise, so are Sir Glutton and Captain Spiker.
