A bus hijacking leaves only brother and sister Naoki and Kozue Tamura, and bus driver Makoto Sawai, as survivors. In the aftermath, Makoto leaves his family for a life on the road, and the Tamuras live in isolation after losing both their parents. Two years later, Makoto returns and, failing to return to his old life, decides to live with the Tamuras.
