The Tall Man
The Tall Man is a half-hour American western television series about Sheriff Pat Garrett and the gunfighter Billy the Kid that aired seventy-five episodes on NBC from 1960 to 1962, filmed by Revue Productions.
Ex-Quantrel raider, Jack Baron, is coming to Lincoln to kill Billy Bonney in revenge for Billy's killing of one of Baron's men. The townspeople of Lincoln are reluctant to fight Baron to protect the chronic trouble-maker Billy Bonney.Pat finds himself standing alone with Billy against Baron. Will Garrett's words and faith in ""the Law"" change the town's mind in time?
Elena, Pat's old flame, returns to town to obtain Pat's protection against her ex-boyfriend Joe Durango. Neither Pat nor Billy know that Elena is really hoping to lure one of them into killing Joe who is pursuing Elena to retrieve money that she stole from him. When Joe arrives in town and attempts to kill Elena, the stage is set for a showdown between Pat and Joe.

Ben Wiley and his family have moved to Lincoln and Billy has taken a liking to his daughter. When Billy introduces Pat Garrett to the family, Pat believes he recognizes Ben Wiley as a fellow prisoner from a prison camp in the Civil War. Garrett has sworn revenge on Wiley and Billy feels obligated to defend his new friends. A showdown between the Kid and Garret seems inevitable.
Buffalo skinner, Sam Nayfack comes to Lincoln to sell his daughter Susan to the highest bidder. Garrett interfers and , for his effort, ends up taking Susan in. It falls upon Pat to rehab the 16 year old and make her presentable as a lady. Harrassment from Billy and opossition from the girl's father make Pat's role less than enviable.
Drifter , Archie Keogh comes to Lincoln and is immediately arrested for harrassing the local saloon owner. As Garrett is checking Keogh into jail, Billy the Kid recognizes him as an old friend. After Billy goes out of his way to help Keogh find a job , Keogh betrays him by killing Billy's girl, Rita's father and blaming it on BIlly. It is up to Pat to find the truth before Billy hangs.
Pat Garret shoots down a horse theif only to find out that the theif is a member of a traveling group of religious fanatics. When Pat goes out to tell the group of the killing, he is kidnapped and forced into becoming the husband of the woman who's husband he killed. Pat's only hope to escape is the understanding of his new mate or the determination of his friend, Billy Bonney, to find him.
Billy goes to work for a rancher called Jake Newton, unaware that his new employer is wanted for murder. When the lynch mob shows up and finds Newton gone, they turn their menacing attentions on Billy.
Billy wants to impress a gentle girl named Charity, so he stops wearing a gun. Then a couple of hired killers show up and they are out to get Billy.
Suffragette Amy Dodds throws a brick through Pat Garrett's window and demands to be arrested. Garrett refuses, so she goes on down the street to Murphy's saloon and throws some more bricks.
Billy runs in to an old pal,Skip Farrell, who once saved Billys life. Out of obligation, BIlly helps him escape from the soldiers who are searching for him for desertion. When Billy and Skip arrive at Skips old girlfriends place, Billy learns that Skips reason for desertion was more sinister than he was led to believe. Billy has to choose between his sense of obligation and doing whats right.
Billy has a job riding shotgun on Bert Wilson's stage. It looks like a pretty routine run until they are surprised by a bandit named Pollitt.
Billy meets a western sensationalist writer named Dean Almond on a stage bound for Lincoln. For fun, Billy conceals his identity when he finds that Almond has come to write about him.He tells Almond ""tall tales"" about ""Billy the Kid' and Almond writes an article based on Billy's lies. When ALmond discovers he has been duped, he takes revenge on Billy. It is up to Pat to save Billy from falling into Almond's trap and getting hanged.
Cyrus Skinner,the town skinflint,has purchased his tombstone. Fate, however, seems to have other plans as the tombstone appears over the grave of Maria Gonzales, whose husband,Juan was too poor to afford one.
Billy saves a mexican boy, Fosfortito, from being whipped by Sledge, the man who he is indentured to. Billy decides to take the boy back to his parents in Mexico. When they get there, Billy finds that the town is controlled and vicimized by an American businessman. Billy shows the town that there is strength in numbers and that there is a time to stand up and fight.
Pat and Billy accompany their friend, Bartlett, on a trip to recover his long ago captured daughter,Sherry,from a now friendly Apache Indian band. However,after Sherry joins her father,it becomes obvious that her loyalties lie with her adopted Indian tribe. When her Apache husband defies his chief and pursues Sally in an attempt to recapture her, a showdown insues.
The railroad line is coming through and that means eviction for the McBean family. But May and June McBean get an idea. Pa can stop the process server if he pretends to be Sheriff Pat Garrett.
Billy is framed for murder by Sheriff Tolinger. Tollinger is taking BIlly to Pecos to hang when they pick up another convicted murderer, Annie. Despite being chained together , they manage to escape and head for help in Lincoln. During the journey the two fall in love.When Tollinger closes in,Billy and Annie must choose between their desire to survive and their love for one another.
Tom Davis asks his friend Pat Garrett to watch over his fiancee Miss Harper and her son David while Davis is out of town on business. Pat and Miss Harper find their relationship is deepening as they spend time together. Pat finds himself torn between his loyalty to his friend and his love for Miss Harper.
A shipping tycoon, Edward Van Doren, arrives in town with his mother looking for Billy the Kid. Van Doren is an avid hunter and he convinces Billy to become his guide on a hunt for mountain lion. Once Billy and Van Doren are alone on the hunt, Van Doren reveals that his real prey is not mountain lions.
A stage coach carrying four mail-order brides is forced to stop in Lincoln when the Apaches go on the warpath. The housing situation is desperate,so the girls turn to Garrett and demand that he put them up in jail.
Pat Garrett is bringing in a prisoner,Curtis, to Lincoln when bad weather forces him to stop in a small Mexican village. The village is very poor and jealousies develop between some of the townspeople and Pat. Sympathy for the prisoner begins to grow and Pat finds the situation becoming more and more hostile. In the end, Pat must rely on the courage of the good people of the town to survive and bring his prisoner to justice.
Also known as ""A Day to Kill"" . Billy sustains a head injury while trying to break a wild horse. When he regains conciousness, he has amnesia. He does not recognize his friends including Pat Garrett so the paranoid Billy holds up in the local saloon with two hostages. Pat must take a chance on killing Billy or being killed in order to capture Billy and return him to the doctors care.
Angelita Sanchez has an old Spanish land grant she thinks is valuable.Garrett agrees that it show Angelita owns half of Lincoln County.
Pat and BIlly accompany Army Major Judd Randolf on a mission to secure the surrender of the outlaw Apache, Chato, and his band. Billy and Nelson share a mutual dislike for each other until they are trapped in a life and death situation with the Indians. In order to survive, both Billy and Major Nelson must learn to trust and respect each others courage and leadership skills.
Maw Kilgore and her boys, Hyram and Dwig, meander down from the hills for a little fun in town, which consits of smashing up the local saloon.
Garrett takes his wounded prisoner, Bob Kelso to Doc Beckett's office to be treated. Kelso tries to confince his ex-girlfriend, the doctors daughter Amie, to help him escape. Garrett must keep a close eye on the situaton or lose his prisoner.
Showman Jacque Montreaux and his four lovely song-and-dance girls arrive in town, and Jaques stops off to show Garrett a letter from the mother of one of the girls, asking that plans to kill Billy the Kid be called off.
A tired Billy takes a snooze during a train ride and misses some intersting action. A marsahll uncovers an illegal gun shipman and is shot by the conductor.
Abner Moody walks into the Lincoln County jailhouse and demans that Garrett jail him for grand theft. In case Garrett has any doubt, Abner has a valise full of stolen cash to prove it.
Billy, Sadie Wren and Jason Cutter all have one thing in common. They were all acquitted of murder by juries in Judge Croomwell's court, much to Cromwell's displeasure. Now the judge has definite plans to correct these verdicts with his own brand of private justice.
Isobel Stewart, an old classmate of Pat Garrett's arrives in town with her sickly husband, Henry. Pat and Isobel renew their friendship causing the overly jealous Henry to plot revenge. When Henry turns up dead, Pat and Isobel are the prime suspects.
Garrett encouonters Burt and Luke Tugwell who are engaged in a grim manhunt. The quarry is their sisters husband who ran off and left her with a baby.
Garrett is called in to investigate when it becomes appaarent that the Mescalero Apache are getting guns and ammunition illegally.
There was a time when Don Diego wanted to marry Rosa, but now all he wants is to see her dead.He believes that she put a curse on him.
WhenOld Doc Baines passes away and young Dr. Wade Parsons tries to take his place, the local citizens regard him with mistrust.
Billy falls in love with a girl whos life he has saved. Phoebe Canfield is running away from her violent and over controlling father. Billy must stand between Phoebe and her father if he is to marry the girl he loves.
Paul Mason is trying to take over Lincoln county and buys off everyone except Pat Garrett. Billy is determined to help Pat out even though Pat tells him to stay out of it. This episode lays a good foundation for the theme of the series i.e. the friend/adversary relatonship between Billy the Kid and Pat Garrett.
Billy's friend Charlie Evers offers him a new pair of boots in exchange for his help rustling cattle. Billy is torn between his desire for the outlaw life and his loyalty to Pat Garrett, his friend and newly appointed deputy. Pat , as usual, is trying to keep Billy on the right side of the Law.
Karl Negal is a rigid, german father to his soon-to-be a man son, Johnny. Johnny idealizes Billy and, wanting to be like him, robs a grocery store and kills the owner. After Pat Garett kills Johnny, Karl Nagel vows revenge on Billy for being a bad influence on his son. Billy must choose between his loyalty to Pat and his own survival in this suspenful episode.

Ben Meyers and his son Jebul have come to town with an old grudge and expose the Parson's violent background. The two are looking for revenge and the only thing stopping them is Pat Garrett.Billy also has something to learn from a gunfighter turned man-of-God.
Garrett is taking killer Dan Rees to prison aboard the night train to Tularosa and , so far as he is concerned, justice has never been sweeter. Rees had married and caused the death of the girl Pat loved.
Teenagers June and May McBean are making a living stealing horses when they make the mistake of stealing Pat Garrett""s horse. Pat tracks and arrests the girls and then intrusts them to Billy while he obtains a buggy to transport them in. The girls escape and tie Billy up. Their egos bruised, Pat and Billy pursue the girls and extract justice from them and their negligent father.
Billy delivers a herd of cattle to Barlows place in Gunsite county. He is robbed and put in jail by ""Judge Barlow"" and his assistants. Pat Garrett is riding his rounds in the territory and is surprised to find that Billy is a captive of Barlows. The two friends must team up to bring justice to Gunsite county.
Pat Garrett arrives at the Corbin ranch to find everyone murdered but the housekeeper, Agatha. Subsequent murders lead Garret to the truth. However when it becomes time to arrest the murderer, Garrett finds Billy has mixed loyalties.
The teenage troublemakers June and May McBean team up to cause Pat, Billy and their dad headaches over illegal brewing of whiskey. It looks like everyone but the culprits will end up in jail. In the end, however, four men against two teenage girls restores order and justice.
Billy and Pat rescue a young apache man from being staked out by his tribe. Billy takes the young man under his wing and insists on bring the Apache to town to live as a ""white man"". Pat, against his better judgement, helps the Aache find a job. Nature takes it's course and there is a murder for which the indian is blamed. Pat and BIlly set out seperately to find the Apache and learn the truth.
It is the Christmas season and Billy is partying at the local salon with his girlfriend, Maria. A visiting Texan taks offense to Billy and a fight errupts, leaving the Texan shot and left for dead. Billy runs towards Mexico to avoid arrest but runs into trouble with Apaches. Garrett attempts to bring Billy in but ends up fighting Apaches with him. In the end Garret's faith in Billy the kid and Billy's loyalty to his lawman friend are tested.
Pat Garrett wins an expensive rifle in a shooting contest in Fort Sumner. When he goes to collect the rifle he finds that the rifle has been stolen and the gunsmith murdered. The two suspects are Billy the Kid and MIles,an old friend and buffalo hunter who took second place in the competition. Garrett goes after the suspect with a heavy heart, prepared to arrest for hanging or to shoot down a friend.
Hendry Grant, a renouned gunfighter is hired by cattle baron, Andy Gorman to kill Billy the Kid and thereby establish Gorman's power over John Tundall in Lincoln county. Garrett, a longtime acquaintance of Grant's tries to prevent the showdown. However, a tragic chain of events leads Billy and Grant to a showdown.
Deputy Johnny Swift angers cattle drover Blanchard and a subsequent gun battle leaves Johnny dead by accident at the hand of his friend Pat Garrett. Pat, in his guilt,, abandons his office and leaves the town at the mercy of Blanchaard and his wild crew. Billy the kid attempts to rescue Garrett from his dispair in time to retore order/
Billy and a young man named , Denver, are constantly butting heads as rival gunslingers and ladies men. Garrett throws them out of town and orders them to go their seperate ways. However, they make a plan to meet and have it out at ""Stone Mountain"" three days out of Lincoln. The subsequent shoot-out leaves Denver wounded. As Billy and the wounded Denver struggle to survive, a surprising friendship is forged.
Cattleman John Miller adds a few of his branded animals to a herd belonging to Pat and Billy . Then Miller accuses the boys of rustling.
John Tundall, Billy's boss, discovers that his ex-wife and her new husband, Ben Webster, have returned to Lincoln with a plot to blackmail him. Garrett and Billy are at a loss to prevent the subsequent showdown. After Tundall is wounded, Billy and Pat find themselves on opposite sides of the law. Can Pat Garrett head off a showdown between Billy and Webster and still bring about justice?
Francisco, a tenant farmer, accidently shoots his landlord to death during an argument.Judy,the landlords daughter and the only witeness, is also wounded. When Garrett arrives, Judy is near death and is only able to point out Francisco as the murderer.
Billy goes for Maria in a big way. Her father, however is a sheep rancher,which traditionally means troble with the local cattle ranchers.Torn between Maria and Garrett, who is siding with the cattlemen, Billy isn't sure which side he will take if it comes to a showdown.
A pair of schemers named Jarrico and Clegg decide to capitalize on the death of Lonnie, an army buddy wwho was the long-lost son of wealthy Sam Masters.Jarrico and Clegg talk a third man into posing as Lonnie.
Marshall Ben Hartley comes to Lincoln to arrest Billy Bonney for the murder of his 12 yeaar old daughter in Prescott., Az. Pat initially helps Hartley arrest Billy but becomes suspicious when Hartley uses unorthodox and vicious methods to deal with Billy. When it becomes obvious that Hartley is out for revenge and not justice, Pat decides to ride along to Billy's trial in Prescott.
When Doc. Holiday comes to Lincoln, he is falsely accused by his estranged girlfriend, Kate Elder, of robbing a stagecoach and killing the driver. Although they are longtime friends, Garrett is forced to arrest Holiday.Holiday vows revenge and a showdown results. Billy makes an effort to head it off by forcing the truth from Kate.
Vince Ober is suppose to be buying cattle for the army, but he is really trying to arrange a deal that will profit only himself.He asks Billy to rustle some cattle,and,when Billy refuses, sends a couple of killers to gun him down.
Billy's step-father, Bill Antrim, is gunned down by a trio of gunmen. When the news reaches town, Billy vows vengeance on the murderers and, despite Garrett's warning, takes the law into his own hands.
Ex-gunfighter and town drunk Clint Latimer vows revenge against Billy Bonney for teaching Latimers son Jody gunfighting. The boy is wounded in a gunfight and Latimer sobers up and practices his draw in preparaion to meet Billy in a showdown. Not wanting to kill Jody's father, Billy struggles to find a way to avoid the fight without running. Garrett gives Billy some advise but will the Kid listen?
Tomboys, June and May McBean are up to their old tricks. They figure that if people thought their Pa was rich, they might land a husband, so they plant some gold in the old man's mine.
Nita Jardine, the wife of an ex-con comes to Lincoln looking to escape the pursuit of her husband. She flirts with both Billy and Pat in the hope of convincing them to protect her against her husband. It appears that her female charms will lead Pat and Billy into a showdown. When Nita's ex-husband arrives, new information about Nita leads Pat to a desperate plan to exposse her and wake up Billy.
Lincoln is in the middle of a drought and Apache Mike Grey Eagle has the only water in town. He has a stranglehold on the town with his high water prices so the town council votes to hire a rainmaker. The rainmaker turns out to be a girl with a determinaton to succceed in finding water or making rain. Pat and Billy get drug into her rainmaking adventure which include capture by the apaches.
Lincoln's Padre is kidnapped by an outlaw named Ledall and held for ransom. When the town can't come up with the money fast enough, Billy the Kid takes matters into his own hands. While Billy is in pursuit of the kidnapper, Garrett is after Billy. When they all finally meet up, it is Pat Garret that must take the long shot chance that will save or doom the padre.
Silver Creek is a boom town in Lincoln county run by the corrupt Jason Clarey. Sheriff Pat Garrett rides out to restore order and finds that the respectable woman of the town are organizing to drive the wicked influences out. These ""wicked"" include one of Pat's old girlfriends,Sal, and her saloon business. Billy, who is in Silver Creek on business for Tundall,throws in with the self-righteous townswomen in hopes of defeating Claarey before Pat had to face Claarey and his bunch alone. It is a strange but humerous alliance.
A railroad land purchaser named Fallon has secured the right-of- way through town. But he refuses to pay the required taxes and backs up his stand with a gang of gunmen.
Garrett thinks it would be a good idea to clean up the town before territorial governor Lew Wallace arrives. He plans to runout a saloonkeeper named Big Mamacita. Her plans are to stay right where she is.
