Sable is a short-lived television program that aired on ABC during the 1987-1988 season, and is based on the comic book, Jon Sable: Freelance, by Mike Grell. Only seven episodes ever aired. The show was a one-hour adventure/drama about mercenary and vigilante Jon Sable, who by day was children's book author Nicholas Fleming. The program ran on Saturdays at 8:00, and aired its final episode on January 2, 1988. Rene Russo had her first television role on the series. Lara Flynn Boyle also had one of her first acting roles playing a kidnapped girl in the series pilot.

Sable is hired by a toy manufacturer to recover his kidnapped granddaughter. The kidnappers demand the man commit suicide or they'll kill his daughter

Jon gets word from an old friend that the son of a man he once killed has come to town...to kill him

Jon investigates a murdered orphanage worker who knew tom much about the orphanage's illegal baby-selling scheme, while he and Cheesecake have to deal with the baby he found in the woman's apartment

In a bizarre twist, a serial killer hires Sable...to protect his next victim

Imitation is not the most sincere form of flattery when Jon must deal with a killer using his name while dispensing justice to criminals

Cheesecake is forced to hire Sable when a neighborhood watch group turns racist and begins preying on minorities

Jon helps out an old friend, a thief, who made the mistake of robbing a rich mobster who is now hunting down the men who dared to steal from him
