Stockbroker Terry, art expert Patrick, orthodontist James and decking supremo Gary have been friends since their schooldays. Now, having all reached the age of 50, they are intent on reliving the freedom of their youth, buying hip new clothes and dating beautiful younger women, but despite their best efforts, the concerns of middle-age still catch up with them.
Gary and Cheryl's 25th wedding anniversary is looming and Gary decides on a suitable present to mark the occasion. A (very) large piece of jewelry is in the offing, but Patrick has another suggestion. Perhaps a handsome young stud with no strings attached? Meanwhile, Terry's latest girlfriend has asked for a present of her own: a new pair of breasts. In a rare display of moral fiber, Terry decides it would be wrong to mess with what is already naturally so perfect. But she can be very persuasive, particularly in the bedroom.
Gary contemplates the idea of getting a mistress because everybody seems to have one. Patrick builds a boat by hand while Terry and James fret about having no dreams of their own.
An embarrassing climax to a date with yet another stunning model causes James to seek medical help.
Patrick and James spend the weekend indulging in fine art.
Gary puts his marriage at risk when he visits a lap-dancing club.
Terry struggles to deal with his ex-wife's handsome new boyfriend, but matters are made worse when he discovers the identity of his own girlfriend's new lover and Patrick is forced to make the most painful decision of his life...
Patrick goes missing following the loss of his mother, leaving Terry to face a series of emotional traumas alone.
Patrick signs up with a dating agency in an effort to find a wife. Meanwhile, Gary asks Cheryl if she wants to try swinging - but when she agrees, he loses his nerve.
The quartet embark on a weekend's hunting and shooting in the countryside in an attempt to bond with each other.
Based on the BBC series of the same name, Manchild tells the story of four men nearing their 50th birthdays and diving head-first into midlife crises. Kevin Smith, John Corbett, Paul Hipp and James Purefoy will star. Stephen Gyllenhaal will direct the half-hour pilot, which was written by Robb and Mark Cullen.
