Kontant is the consumer magazine, which every week addresses important issues that affect Danes and their wallets. The editors focus on the consumers' agenda, follow their complaints, come up with good advice, investigate and provide an overview.

Seasons & Episodes

In recent years, a large number of Danes have bought gift cards for hotel stays and dinners. But when the gift cards are to be redeemed, they prove to be worthless. Behind the scam are several Danish call centers based in Spain. Jacob Kragelund examines the people behind it and reveals that some of them have also raised money for charity - money that did not end where the gullible donors thought they should end.

At short notice, the nurses from Amager Hospital had their Christmas lunch canceled. And they are far from alone. For decades, one of the country's largest event agencies has arranged company parties, Christmas lunches and cultural events. However, many of the customers experience that the events are canceled and postponed with a short deadline, just as the content turns out to be something completely different than originally agreed. Jacob Kragelund examines the company behind the glittering facade. And it’s not just consumers who feel cheated by the man behind the parties.

Tens of thousands of Danes are experiencing sharp price increases on their vital medicines. Jacob Kragelund goes in search of an explanation of how medicine prices can suddenly rise by 1000 percent from one day to the next.

Breed dogs are popular in Denmark. There is such a great demand for the expensive puppies that they are imported illegally from Eastern Europe on a large scale, without the possibility of controlling either vaccinations, health or upbringing. Jacob Kragelund goes in search of the criminal dog dealers.

Thousands of tenants end up in conflict with their landlords every year due to rent increases, poor maintenance or expensive bills upon eviction. Cash is investigating a large rental company that rents out poorly maintained homes and apartments that the authorities consider to be hazardous to living in.

Kontant investigates a company that apparently exploits some of society's weakest citizens. Severely disabled people experience that their signatures are forged and that their vital helpers are not paid. It turns out that the man who heads the company has very special prerequisites for understanding the situation of the disabled.

It abounds with advertisements from companies that will give you a nice algae-free roof. The companies spray the customers' roofs with algae remedies, but do the customers get what they are promised - and what consequences do the algae remedies have for nature? Kontant reveals fraud in the industry, use of illegal means and violent consequences for the environment.

They call when you least expect it, and welcome you to Denmark's cheapest electricity in your socket. But once you get the bill, an even bigger surprise awaits. Kontant is behind the company, which is currently setting new records in consumer complaints.

Denmark's largest electronics chain promises to match the market's lowest prices. But for the customers, it is a struggle to get the good deals in house. Kontant examines the sales methods in Elgiganten and asks the director if the giant has become so big that customers always become the small ones.

Beautiful cars, charming salesman and good offers for customers. On the surface, everything looks good in the plumbing company, but then the problems begin. One customer is in his fourth month with a half-finished bathroom, another has ended up with a hole in the floor down to the basement, and in a crawl space on Amager, Kontant reveals an unpleasant secret that the house owner knows nothing about. Jacob Kragelund pursues the many cases, and it must turn out that the charming seller is an old acquaintance of Kontant.

Every year, thousands of tenants end up in conflict with their landlord. And it’s not just disagreement about rent, maintenance or the color of the walls that creates problems. Some landlords resort to harassment, illegal surveillance and threats when unwanted tenants get in the way of a good deal.

While the corona crisis makes many Danish companies gasp for air, others see good business in hand alcohol, air exchangers and other products that promise Danes to remove viruses. But do the products live up to their promise? Kontant tests the products and seeks out the companies behind.
