Jake in Progress
7.0

Jake in Progress is an American comedy series broadcast on ABC from 2005 to 2006. Created by Austin Winsberg, the show was originally conceived as a real-time comedy; the first season was to show the first date of Jake and a woman. This was dropped during development, and the show became more conventional and episodic. The first aired episode reflected the original plan, and covering the first half-hour of a date.

Life moves at a non-stop pace for Jake Phillips, a New-York based publicist-to-the-stars who's the key player at Magnum PR Agency. Handsome, incredibly well-dressed, he's on call 24/7 to meet the needs of his A-list clientele. Whether it's a macho action star caught in an embarrassing clinch, an older actress trying to dump her much-younger (and even more famous) boyfriend, or two warring teen divas - Jake is there to spin the facts and control his client's image, a task that often leads him into unexpectedly funny situations. Complicating his work life even further is his boss, Naomi, a woman in a people profession who frankly can't stand people, and who often uses Jake to act as her go-between when things get too personal with the staff or the clients. The fact that Naomi is an expectant single mom in the difficult final stretch of her first pregnancy doesn't help matters. Brooke is an office temp who doesn't take any of Jake's BS, and she's one of the few women who has ever said ""no

Jake faces a PR crisis when one of his top clients, Dakota (guest star Ed Quinn) -- part of the three ""Gaymigos"" design team, wants to go public with the fact he's straight. Meanwhile, the girl Jake's romancing (Alicia Coppola as Alison) insists he set up her unhappily single cousin (Amy Von Freymann) with a date, and the only guy he can find is Patrick; and Adrian's in-laws (Mary Anne McGarry, Steve Susskind) turn up and insist on seeing their favorite person -- Jake!

Jake invites a popular actress to be his date for a birthday party given by his biggest rival.

While dealing with an actress who wants to end a romance with a younger actor, Jake wishes to deepen a relationship of his own.

Jake plans an early night but can't sleep; so he goes to a lounge, where he's attracted to a woman staying at his hotel.

Chaos ensues as Jake tries to juggle two teen-star clients, fil-in for an incapacitated Naomi and prepare a speech.

After Jake asks a model to go to Vermont with him, he finds he's attracted to her model friend.

Jake spends the night at Adrian's house and starts to like the suburbs after he meets a single mom.

To attract new clients, Naomi insists that Jake throw her a surprise birthday party at his apartment.

Jake, Adrian and Patrick attend the opening of a sports bar that's owned by one of Jake's clients, a not-too-tall basketball player.

Jake dates Naomi's sister, while Adrian does him a favor by keeping an eye on a reckless client.

Jake's progress with Brooke hits a snag when a former boyfriend surfaces.

Jake's plans for a romantic evening with Brooke are interrupted by the antics of a child star and Naomi's labor.
