Danger Bay is a Canadian television series, produced in Vancouver, with first-run episodes broadcast on CBC Television and the Disney Channel starting October 7, 1985. One hundred and twenty three installments were filmed, ending in 1989, but the series, perceived as wholesome and exciting fare for older children and adolescents, continued to be seen through the 1990s in numerous countries around the world. The plots of the episodes followed the exploits of the Roberts family, led by marine veterinarian Grant "Doc" Roberts, and his two children, Nicole and Jonah. The 30-minute episodes featured the Vancouver Aquarium in nearly every installment. Most episodes focused on environmental issues such as pollution, wildlife endangerment and forest preservation. The series was also broadcast in Gibraltar Bulgaria, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Iceland, Cuba, Trinidad & Tobago, Finland

Seasons & Episodes

As Jonah enters UBC, he is hired as an assistant to a scientist studying the use of sign language with chimpanzees; as he gets closer to his boss, jealousy flares on two different fronts with unfortunate consequences.

Jonah is surprised to find his old high school friend David at UBC having returned from Toronto disabled & confined to a wheelchair. When he realizes that David's father refuses to accept his son's condition, Jonah relies on the help of a prominent athelete to help change his mind.

After responding to a fisherman's distress signal, J.L. is poisoned by mysterious toxic waste and Grant must race to determine what chemical agent is responsible so she can be saved in time.

Grant and Christine come across a number of beached Grey whales in the vicinity of some new oil rigs and determine that underwater noise pollution is responsible; as they try to convince the company at fault to implement better measures, Jonah takes matters into his own hands via his new job working for the campus newspaper.

A weekend away is the order of the day when Nicole, Jonah and George conspire to send Grant & J.L. to a seaside resort for some much needed time together.

After Grant unsuccessfully tries to talk George out of going on an expedition to a glacier, George suffers a compound fracture and must be rescued by Jonah and Nicole in a daring maneouvre.

The arrival of Grant's niece Jess throws all into an uproar as the Aquarium staff hunt for an escaped toad, Nicole tries to convince Jonah to introduce her to his new friend, and J.L. hosts a luncheon for an old rival from high school.

The Roberts family races to collect enough specimens of a tiny rare fish found in a swamp about to be destroyed by developers.

Grant aids a friend who runs a cannery employed by troubled teens to determine the source of industrial sabotage while Nicole gets close with their prime suspect.

When sent to investigate dwindling deer population numbers, the Roberts come up against a band of hunters intent on wiping out local wolves believing them responsible for destroying their prey.

Grant is burdened with the responsibility of caring for a problem pig while Jonah tries to woo his sophisticated new girlfriend.

Jess helps an aged scientist studying cancer therapy with seals and becomes convinced he is lying to further his fame in the scientific community.

Tragedy strikes when Grant takes Jess camping on her birthday and she nearly drowns trying to save an abandoned duckling from frigid waters.

J.L. and Nicole are taken hostage by a fleeing convict and his girlfriend and must try to escape when their plane is forced to land at an abandoned logging site.

When her father returns from abroad and reveals to J.L. that he may be losing his sight, she must convince him to seek medical treatment.

Ancient Spirits

Jonah and Nicole stumble upon a 200 year-old Indian prayer ground and must work with an archaeologist after the artifacts are stolen by apparent thieves.

While using the family's CB radio, Jess becomes obsessed with the lives of a young mother and her baby after listening in on their lives via the family's baby monitor.

While teaching nature survivalist skills at a camp for the blind, Nicole must convince a young woman that her guide dog may be sick and needs medical treatment.

While working to save a local pond with a population of rare cranes from destruction, Grant and Jess meet Allison Walker, a journalist and mother of 3 who has just moved back to the city to return to local television.

Grant teams up with an old friend to save the Tamanous Marshlands from developers but soon learns of his friend's greedy ulterior motives.

The Aquarium enjoys a visit from an old friend while a woman tries to unload a squirrel monkey infected with Hepatitis B in the Amazon Gallery, putting the rest of the animals at risk.

After six years of living in Danger Bay, the Roberts family reflects back on the time they have spent there.

Grant, Nicole and J.L. go on a camping trip, but when Nicole is swept away and injured in the rapids things go from bad to worse.

A change in the family by way of a proposal means that everyone in the soon-to-be-new family must learn to deal with change.

While volunteering at a wildfowl sanctuary, Nicole meets an agoraphobic ornithologist whom she must convince to operate on an injured falcon.

When Grant contracts the chicken pox, J.L. pledges to nurse him back to health ""for better or for worse."" Meanwhile Nicole and Jonah investigate a large number of fish deaths near a rural river.

When a monkey given to Nicole goes missing, her and Jonah discover a menagerie of wild animals belonging to a mild-mannered animal lover who rescues unwanted pets. When the city is forced to shut down the man's make-shift shelter, Grant races to save them all from destruction.

Nicole takes on a job babysitting to earn extra money, but faces quite the challenge in her rebellious blues-loving charge, Adam. When the boy tramples a nest of unhatched geese eggs, the Aquarium staff must work throughout the night to save the goslings' lives.

When his research proposal is inexplicably turned down, Grant resigns from the aquarium and tries to figure out why a power-wielding scientist is trying to blacklist him in the scientific community.

After Dark

The Aquarium receives a generous donation of exotic fish and equipment as part of the last will of an eccentric millionaire. While Nicole and Jonah take a group of kids on an overnight expedition to the Aquarium, the millionaire's scheming sons decide to break in to claim what's rightfully theirs.

When Nicole and Grant come across an abandoned truck full of toxic waste in the forest, they organize a Skywatch using J.L.'s pilot colleagues to keep an eye out for companies illegally dumping their waste products.

Jonah attempts to join a forest fire fighting unit as a summer job, but his fear of fire stands in the way. He is forced to put his fears behind him in order to help a little girl stranded in the middle of a raging forest fire.

Jonah becomes jealous of his girlfriend's seeming interest in his new friend Larry, and his anger comes to a head when the duo join forces for their high school's annual car rally competition.

Grant and Jonah tackle a pair of bear poachers on a routine survey of the local population.

The Roberts family tries to uncover who has been secretly drugging the prize-winning racehorse of one of Nicole's friend's, causing her to loose an important race.

When Jonah & Nicole witness an elephant become spooked & rampage during a magic show, they bring in Grant to determine what is causing the animal distress. While they try to help her, her original owners scheme to get her back.

Grant goes up against a corporate businessman whom he believes is responsible for a garbage scow leak that caused loads of damage to a local ecosystem; Nicole wages her own battle against the businessman's granddaughter in a student council election.

While doing a school project, Jonah befriends a refugee from Vietnam whose own tragic past is complicated by the bullying and taunting of his prejudiced classmates.

Jonah takes Adam to the open waters to record the sounds of whale communication where they come upon a father & daughter whose inexperience in the outdoors nearly leads to disastrous consequences.

The sudden appearance of a stray dog with apparent powers of premonition fuels the battle between science and the paranormal among the Roberts clan.

Jonah and Nicole enlist aboard a schooner and must prove themselves to its skeptical captain.

Mayhem abounds at the Aquarium as the staff holds a weekend murder mystery with the staff & their families playing the various roles involved. Added to the mix is an escaped convict who is swept up into the mystery while trying to evade the law.

Jonah and Nicole take George's niece Melissa to the country where they come across an injured coyote pup. When Melissa becomes attached to the pup, the Roberts must convince her to return him to the wild where he belongs.

While exploring Bailey's Cove, Jonah & Nicole come across a deep sea gill net that could ensnare the area's sealife. Soon after they meet Agnes Calhoun, an old friend of Grant's with a history of aggressive ecological crusading, who inspires Jonah to try to tackle the net himself with near-deadly consequences.

Lying and cheating is not what a healthy relationship is about, unfortunately Jonah learns that the hard way. After getting a new girlfriend, he wants to impress her in every way, because she's wealthy and he doesn't want to lose her.

While a member of the school gymnastics team, Nicole befriends a girl whose mother was once a prima ballerina now confined to a wheelchair and must help convince her she can still lead a normal life following her accident.

Grant and his new protegà intern work to devise a kit to detect the presence of the toxin known as ""Red Tide."" When their attempts fail, Grant is saddened to discover his assistant's ambition for fame overshadowing his professional ethics.

The presence of an avian virus affecting the chicken farm of one of George's old friends leads the gang to an illegal smuggling ring dealing in rare birds. One of the persons involved in the ring is revealed to be J.L.'s new pilot, Rick, who takes Nicole on one of his runs.

While Jonah works up the courage to ask Nicole's friend Emma to a dance, Zuzette, a biologist on exchange from France, races to collect five tropical frogs that accidentally escaped from their aquarium.

On the ninth anniversary of his wife's death, Grant takes Nicole deep sea sailing. When they're suddenly caught in a squall and forced to abandon ship, J.L. and Jonah fear the worst.

While enrolled in a scuba diving certification program, Jonah and his friend Derrick accidentally injure a wolf eel with an underwater spear gun. When Jonah takes the blame, Derrick must decide whether or not to come forward and face the music.

A visit from an old friend drops a much sought-after dolphin statue in Nicole's possession. When an art collector will stop at no means to get a hold of the artifact, the Aquarium staff race to uncover the secret behind it.

The Roberts discover one of their favourite forests has been bought by a survivalists school. When Jonah decides to enroll, he is put to the test in a competition against the school instructor's daughter.

Nicole and Jonah befriend a young Czechoslovakian student visiting Vancouver who chooses to defect to Canada. As his teacher tries to convince Grant to deny him asylum, his fellow students decide to join him in staying.

Nicole is injured during a mountain climbing practice and develops a fear of heights. When she decides to continue with her climb, she is forced to confront her fear when a dire situation arises.

Grant and Jonah recover an injured seal and discover a mysterious implant in it's brain. When an intelligence agent decides the seal must be killed, the Aquarium staff race to save the creature's life before it's too late.

The Roberts assist in an archaeological dig in a nearby forest: Grant must deal with an arrogant paleontologist convinced her theories are correct, while Nicole must handle a fellow student who keeps stealing her credit for unearthing fossils.

The Aquarium staff investigate a series of wounded bald eagles that leads them to a nearby flying school and a pilot with a vendetta against the creatures. Grant must convince local farmers to stop aiding the man in wiping out the eagles from the area.

To Glimpse a Unicorn

When a killer whale carcass exhibits some unusual wounds, the Aquarium determines it to be from a wayward narwhal trapped in a nearby channel. When a wealthy philanthropist offers to finance the expedition, Dr. Roberts and his children jump at the chance to track the rare creature down, but are his intentions truly humanitarian?

Upon returning from a camping trip to visit his old friend Pete, Grant discovers he is the recipient of the Fairfax Award worth sixty thousand dollars. When it is revealed the award is a distraction to the environment damage caused by the company sponsoring the award, Grant must decide whether to accept it or refuse.

A routine plane trip to gather some endangered fish ends in near tragedy when Nicole and Jonah's pilot has a heart attack in flight. Nicole must land the plane with help from J.L. and Grant via radio.

Grant, Nicole, and ornithologist Jeff Storey head to Raven Island to determine the extent of a viral outbreak. There they encounter a reclusive artist bent on remaining alone.

Grant must juggle his responsibilities at the Aquarium caring for a soon-to-be orphan otter pup with his fledgling relationship with J.L. The frosty disposition of his new assistant adds to the mix.

After Grant and J.L. find a young South American girl hiding in the Aquarium's Amazon exhibit, J.L. decides to become the girl's guardian and must quickly adapt to motherhood.

Jonah & his friends decide to take action into their own hands when their favourite forest is threatened by the logging industry. Grant is forced to confront the fact his son is growing up and has a will of his own.

A wayward wildcat terrorizes Vancouver and the Roberts & Co. do their best to return the creature to the wild before amateur hunters can get to him. Meanwhile Donna must decide whether or not to leave the Aquarium and accompany her husband to Ottawa.

Jonah can't wait to get to know Jean-Paul, a friend of Grant's who has come to visit and has a sports car! While Grant works on a machine which might be able to re-create the songs of whales, Jonah learns that appearances can be deceiving.

A storm hits Danger Day and Nicole finds herself home alone. During the storm a boy turns up on her doorstep. He has runaway from home and Nicole must help him to see that runawaying doesn't solve problems, before the storm ends and its too late.

A man working at a circus helps an old female seal to the Aquarium hoping that she can live in peace, in return he takes a younger seal. Grant and Nicole are able to find the seal and kidnapper by an electronic tracking device and decide to take pity on the old man and do something for him.

Grant learns to let Jonah work through his own problems now that he is getting older.

Grant receives some upsetting news when he learns that a friend who lived in Africa has disappeared. It troubles him to the point where he considers going to Kenya. His children don't want to go and J. L. can't seem to get through to Grant, which leaves it to two boys who Grant meets on the beach.

Nicole goes away for the weekend to visit her friend Heather, J. L. accidently finds out that Heather's father is David Cormier, an old flame of hers from the past. Grant, finding out all this, insists that J. L. tags along, only she starts to fall for David again which doesn't please Nicole.

Grant gets concerned when the otter's appear to have disappeared from the bay. He sets out in the boat with Jonah and Doug to try and find out what has happened to them.

A young man who has just been employeed at the Aquarium can't read or write. When Nicole finds this out she seeks to help him learn before it to loses him his job.

Billy tries to teach a young boy sign language so he can communicate with a chimpanzee. But when an evening of fun ends up in lots of misunderstanding between the boy, Tracy and Nicole.

Suspicions are very where, but especially focused on Nicole's new friend Tracy who has a bit of a bad reputation.

While Jonah and Grant are out fishing they start getting bites from big fish. Earlier in the day they had been joking with George over the very same thing. But when more and more oversized fish are found, Grant realises that someone must be genetically changing the salmon's size and must stop it before the food runs out and species die out.

George & the Roberts family go away for the weekend after George's friend invites them to stay at the island resort ""Sylvan Shores."" When they find the resort on the verge of closure, they each pitch in to keep it running long enough to impress some visiting investors.

Joyce is reading to leave Danger Day behind herm but when the Roberts are taken hostage she has time to think it over.

George and Grace worry about the Roberts and go to help them meanwhile Joyce has to contend with other problems.

Grant has to take action after a sick and contagious seal is removed from the aquarium by a group of ecologists.

Jonah helps his friend Billy, a young deaf boy, overcome his fear of water.

Dealing with animals is always tricky, but an orangutang who can't control her temper is something different. After trying various ways to help her keep calm, George finally find out they all she wanted from the start was a companion.

A training survival course proves to be more than Nicole wants when things go wrong.

While J.L. is flying his plane he encounters a storm which leeda to him crashing. On board the plane was Grant and George who are injured. Back in Danger Bay, Grant's children and Grace must face the possibility that the search party may not find the missing men.

J.L. is stopped by the possible and in the compartment of the helicopter wildlife skins are found. It is up to Grant to prove J.L. innocent and bring down a smuggling ring.

The annual bathtub race arrive in the strait of Vancouver and Nicole and Jonah want to enter. The adults see the possibility of getting extra sponsers for the aquarium. With three new sponsers and three new bathtubs a rough ride awaits Jonah, Grant and J.L.

Someone has been importing exotic snakes after Nicole goes to the river with J.L. and finds a coral snake. They need to find out who is bringing them in and stop them.

The lake is polluted and Nicole loses her sight because of it. Grant goes to a ranch thinking that they might be the source of the pollution. By the end, Nicole's sight returns.

Grant is busing preparing for the Chinese president who is going to visit the aquarium. The children though feel left out as they are not getting the attention that they need and turn to J.L.

A boat has to be placed in quarantine after a bengal tiger is found to be carrying the plague. Grants agrees to help the crew and the tiger to recover.

Once again there is polluted water and Nicole and Grant must find out who is responsible. They find that the reason behind the pollution came down to money.

A friend of George, who has isolated himself from people with his fitchet, becomes center spotlight when he saves the like of a small boy which makes people look at him differently.

Jonah and Nicole become suspicious of their father after he starts being secretive. Unknown to them, Grant has been sent on a secret assignment from the state to prevent a massive pollution.

J.L. is roped into helping prepare an anniversary for Grant.

A mystery is made when Grant turns detective to find a missing statue.

An episode of the past as Danger, the family's pet otter, disappears and the Roberts have time to remember how she first came into their lives and family.

Wild horses cause Nicole to put herself at their front of their cause. However, not everyone agrees with what she does.

Tensions run high after Nicole is bitten by a rabid dog and the Aquarium staff race to find it and it's owner responsible.

The Roberts family have mixed feelings when it is proven that friends of theirs are poaching salmon, only for it to be later proven as untrue.

Tennis championships cause Jonah to be competitive and lose sight of the reason why he enjoys playing tennis.

Katie, a mute girl, befriends Nicole and is fascinated by Biosa, one of the female Orca at the aquarium. Nicole comes to see that a great bond can be made between humans and animals when there is understanding.

Doug, who though handicapped physically has a passion for saving the environment, turns up to alert Grant that eggs of the falcoln were being stolen to be sold on the black market making the species more threatened than ever.

Margaret, one of Nicole's friends, begins working at the aquarium after school. Grant has problems when he discover boxes of fish from the aquarium are being transported.

Grant exchanges with a veterinary friend in the countryside thinking that it will be a great holiday. However he soon finds out that the countryside isn't as peaceful as he thought...

A day of diving turns sour quickly for Jonah as he faces the possibilty of being blind because the water was polluted.

Grace, Grant's sister, comes to visit the Robert family much to everyone's displeasue. It is especially hard for George who left her.

George Dunbar is excited when he learns that a team of divers has found a trunk filled with treasure. He shows off the valuable trunk and organising and advertising an event for opening it.

The birth of a baby beluga whale brings both joy and sadness and a world first. But it dies a few weeks after being born causing a multitude of depression and sadness.

Caos rains in Vancouver after a grizzly bear comes into the city looking for food.

When a person claims to have seen a marine monster in Vancouver, Grant goes to investigate to uncover the story as a scam.

Grant, along with his children, are out to save a nearby forest from disappearing because of excessive cutting.

Jonah wants to take part in a traditional cermony marking entry into adulthood with his Indian friend. In the museum is an old mark which the young boy wants in order to impress his grandfather.
